05 Apr Disciplining Your Child Doesn’t Make You A Monster
Growing up I didn’t exactly like my parents. I mean, a whole of African kids probably didn’t like their parents so much either.
We just put up with so much beating and punishments. I’m sure a number of us wondered if our parents were actually our biological parents depending on the intensity of the strictness.
But we grew up. And the amazing thing is that alot of us turned out all the better for it. Just like gold goes through the fire and becomes refined, so did many of us become refined after we walked through the tough paths of discipline.
Now I don’t support any kind of abuse neither do I applaud hitting a child unnecessarily. Such parents should be arrested and prosecuted. Every child deserves respect and love.
And every child should be disciplined when he errs. The Bible says that a father disciplines the child he loves. It also says when you spare the rod, you spoil the child.
Some of these developed nations prevent parents from beating their children. Well we know how some of them end up. Everything should be balanced.
In Proverbs, the Bible says that foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. So you see? God encourages us to discipline our children and train them in the way of Lord.
